EPL: Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso faces three-game ban after alleged violent conduct

Chelsea defender, Marcos Alonso is facing a three-game ban after being charged with violent conduct by the Premier League Football Association for his stamp on Southampton forward, Shane Long.

The Spain international stood on Long’s calf in the first half of Chelsea’s 3-2 win over Southampton at St Mary’s in the Premier League at the weekend.

Alonso, if found guilty by the FA’s independent three-man panel, will miss Chelsea’s Premier League clash with Burnley on Thursday, the FA Cup semi-final against Southampton on Sunday, as well as the Premier League game away to Swansea City on April 28.

A statement from the FA reads: “Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso has been charged with violent conduct following an incident with Southampton’s Shane Long.

“It happened in the 43rd minute of Saturday’s game [14/04/18] and was not seen by the match officials but caught on video.

“Off the ball incidents which are not seen at the time are referred by The FA to a panel of three former elite match officials. Referee Mike Dean appeared to have a clear view of Alonso’s challenge.

“For retrospective action to be taken, and an FA charge to follow, the decision of the panel must be unanimous.”
