The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has cautioned constitutional lawyer, Prof. Ben Nwabueze, and some sections of the country against determining the outcome of the proposed National Conference.
The forum, in a statement yesterday in Kaduna, by its spokesman, Mr. Anthony Sani, said the fact that Nwabueze and some sections of the country had managed to sell the idea of the conference to the government and Nigerians does not qualify him to seek to determine its outcome.
The forum was reacting to reports credited to Nwabueze to the effect that he wanted President Goodluck Jonathan to mandate him to draft the people’s constitution for consideration during the proposed conference.
The statement fronwned on the purported reports credited to Nwabueze, noting that already, there is a National Advisory Committee, charged with the task and responsibility of collating views of Nigerians for the purpose of advising the government on the conference.
“That Nwabueze and some sections of this country have managed to sell the idea of the conference to the government and to the good people of Nigeria does not qualify him to seek to determine the outcome of the conference up front," the statement said.
