Super Eagles stand in captain, Vincent Enyeama claims he’s not motivated by the prospect of becoming the goalkeeper with the record of going the longest number of minutes without conceding a goal in Ligue 1.
Enyeama has been in excellent for French club, Lille OSC this season. The 31-year-old who has made 13 league appearances for Les Douges has not conceded in 11 of those games this term.
He last conceded when Lille lost 0-2 to Nice on September 15 meaning he’s now gone 765 minutes without conceding a goal in France’s top flight.
PSG keeper Salvatore Sirigu holds the record for the longest number of minutes without conceding a goal.
Italy International Sirigu kept a clean sheet for PSG for 948 minutes, over 15 hours, before finally conceding in a run that commenced on November 17, 2012 to February 8, 2013.
Enyeama will break that record if he does not concede in Lille’s next three league games against Toulouse, Valenciennes and Olympic Marseille.
The athletic shot stopper returns to his place between the sticks for Lille on Sunday against Toulouse at the Grand Stade Lille Métropole but insists he’s not thinking about getting into the record books.
“I don’t keep statistics. I am surprised you just read out the facts for me. Honestly, I wasn’t even aware because I just go out to play football,” Enyeama told supersport.com when he was informed that he was on the threshold of history.
He added that God has been the major reason behind his impressive run this season.
“It’s thanks to God that I have been able to keep clean sheets this season. I don’t go out looking to break records,” he said.
Enyeama claims he wasn’t aware of what he’s about to achieve. He has now been made aware of it by supersport.com and one wonders whether that will have any effect on his performance on Sunday.
