Anthony Martial came off the bench to fire Manchester United to a 1-0 victory as Jose Mourinho's men edged a cagey encounter with high-flying Tottenham.
Second hosted third as the Premier League title contenders looked to keep up with early pace-setters Manchester City.
The match looked set to end in an unremarkable draw, only for substitute Martial to race onto Romelu Lukaku's flick-on late on to fire United to a 1-0 win against Mauricio Pochettino's Spurs.
The relief was palpable after the substitute's effort bobbled past Hugo Lloris in the 81st minute, continuing United's 100 percent Premier League record at Old Trafford where they have not even conceded a goal.
Premier League leaders Manchester City continued their unbeaten start to the season thanks to a 3-2 win against West Brom.
That victory restored their lead at the top of the table to five points after United had cut it down to two by beating Spurs.
A flurry of goals in the opening 15 minutes saw Leroy Sane give Pep Guardiola's side the lead, Jay Rodriguez equalise for West Brom and Fernandinho restore City's advantage.
Substitute Raheem Sterling then looked to have secured the points in the 64th minute, moments after coming on, but West Brom pulled a consolation back in the second minute of added time.
Liverpool recovered from missing a penalty to comfortably dispatch Huddersfield 3-0 and win at Anfield.
The afternoon did not start well with Dejan Lovren taken injured in the warm-up and replaced by Ragnar Klavan, before Mohamed Salah saw a penalty saved by Jonas Lossl.
But the hosts took the lead through Daniel Sturridge five minutes into the second-half when Daniel Sturridge pounced on a Huddersfield defensive error to score.
And then Roberto Firmino (58) scored with a header from a James Milner corner and Georginio Wijnaldum added a third in the 75th minute to seal the points.
Arsenal fought back from a goal down to beat Swansea 2-1 at the Emirates thanks to second-half goals from Sead Kolasinac and Aaron Ramsey.
Sam Clucas got on the end of Tammy Abraham's through ball to put the visitors ahead in the 22nd minute.
But Kolasinac got the Gunners level in the 51st minute and then set up Ramsey to put them in front.
Hector Bellerin hit the crossbar from an Alexis Sanchez cross as Arsenal looked to add a third.
Wilfried Zaha scored an equaliser deep into added time as Crystal Palace fought back from two goals down to draw with West Ham.
Javier Hernandez and Andre Ayew had West Ham two goals ahead at half-time, while a fine save from Joe Hart denied James Tomkins' close-range header.
Palace rallied after the break and scored through Luka Milivojevic before Yohan Cabaye struck the post.
Hart also saved well at full-stretch from a Cabaye free kick and Tomkins struck the crossbar before Zaha scored to seal a point in the 2-2 draw.
Stoke condemned Watford to a second consecutive Premier League defeat as they won 1-0 at Vicarage Road.
Darren Fletcher's first goal for Stoke gave the Potters a 16th-minute lead. The former Manchester United midfielder volleying home a Xherdan Shaqiri corner from the edge of the box.
Charlie Adam rounded Watford goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes in the fourth minute of added time but his effort hit the post.
