The National Super Alliance (NASA) on Saturday, October 7, cancelled its planned campaigns in Mombasa and Kwale counties for unspecified reasons.
The opposition was scheduled to hold rallies in the two coastal towns amidst threats to stop the repeat election slated for Thursday, October 26.
The decision comes as it emerged President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto are expected to campaign in Mombasa county on Sunday, October8.
The Jubilee party is determined to harvest more votes from the region considered a NASA stronghold.
Uhuru is also expected to receive several leaders who have cut links with NASA after they lost in the August 8 election.
Omar was the Wiper party secretary general. He vied for the Mombasa governorship seat but was floored by Hassan Joho.
