The Peoples Democratic Party has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress of delaying the restructuring of the county.
The party alleged that the pronouncements of some of the APC leaders in the past were indications that the party was not interested in restructuring.
It described the committee set up by the party on restructuring and headed by Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, as an afterthought.
The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Dayo Adeyeye, stated this in Abuja on Saturday.
Adeyeye noted that the National Chairman of the APC, John Odigie-Oyegun, and El-Rufai said on national television that their party was not interested in restructuring.
He said, “It (the setting up of a committee) is a delay tactic meant to kill the demand for restructuring and we are not interested. We will not participate in the hearing because the APC has no genuine interest in restructuring the country.
“They betrayed their real intention when the party and its members were campaigning against restructuring.
“They said it was never in their manifesto. The APC national chairman and one of their governors granted media interviews to say that restructuring was not in their manifesto.
“So when did they change their mind? People are agitating for restructuring and you say you are holding a public hearing. It is the responsibility of the National Assembly.
“The APC is employing delay tactics to kill the issue of restructuring and it is a shame on them.”
